Can Skincare Really Slow Down the Signs of Ageing?

Ageing is a natural process, but how it shows up on your skin can vary hugely depending on how you care for it. And while no cream, serum or treatment will stop time, the right skincare routine can significantly slow down visible signs of ageing, improve skin health and help you feel more confident in your skin for longer.

In clinic, I’m often asked:

“What’s the best skincare to slow down ageing?” “Does good skincare really make that much of a difference?”

The short answer? Yes - when it’s consistent, high quality and tailored to your skin. Let’s me tell you about the reasons why below.

Why Medical-Grade Skincare Works Better

If you’re using products from the supermarket or high-street beauty store, you’re likely getting minimal concentrations of active ingredients. These products are generally designed to sit on the skin’s surface and give a short-term feel-good result (think: softening or brightening for a few hours).

Medical-grade skincare, like the CLINICCARE range we use in the clinic, is different.

These products are:

  • Scientifically formulated

  • Rich in active ingredients (like hyaluronic acid, peptides, antioxidants, and skin-repairing vitamins)

  • Designed to reach the deeper layers of the skin where ageing happens

  • Often pH-balanced for optimal absorption

In short, they do more than make your skin feel nice, they actually create visible, long-term change.

What Happens When You Use Medical-Grade Skincare Consistently?

With daily use, many clients notice:

  • Improved hydration

  • Brighter, more even tone

  • Reduction in breakouts or inflammation

  • A plumper, smoother texture

  • Reduced appearance of fine lines and early wrinkles

  • A noticeable improvement in skin resilience and glow

It’s not always about perfection. We are supporting your skin to function at its best and when that happens, everything else (including injectables) works better too.

What Should a Good Skincare Routine Include?

It doesn’t have to be complicated. A strong, foundational routine should include:

  1. Cleanser – A gentle cleanser to remove oil, sweat and pollutants without stripping the skin barrier

  2. Essence or Toner – Preps the skin to absorb serums and boosts hydration

  3. Serum – Where the magic happens (always my favourite products - these are what tailor your routine to YOU). Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides or vitamin C

  4. Moisturiser – Locks in hydration and protects the skin barrier

  5. SPF (daily!) – Non-negotiable. Every. Single. Day.

Optional extras like exfoliants, eye creams and masks can be added depending on your goals and skin type, but the basics above will take you a long way.

In clinic, I can help recommend products from the CLINICCARE range that suit your skin and your goals without overcomplicating things or giving you a crazy ten step routine (absolutely not needed!).

How Skincare Supports Injectables

If you’re someone who also has aesthetic treatments like anti-wrinkle injections or dermal filler, medical-grade skincare can:

  • Extend the life of your results

  • Reduce the need for “topping up”

  • Support smoother, more hydrated skin so filler sits better

  • Help maintain skin elasticity so lines don’t deepen as quickly over time

Think of it this way: injectables can sculpt and smooth, but skincare is what gives your skin that healthy, glowing finish.

Skincare shouldn’t feel confusing or overwhelming. It should feel empowering like something you do for you, every day.
